Tommy's Q&A - eCommerce Developer - Spectre Creative

We would like to welcome Tommy, who has joined our Spectre team as a new Web Developer! He is originally from Poland but is currently living in Glasgow and will join the rest of the team remotely.  Continue reading for a first-day Q&A to get to know him a little better.

Tell us a little bit about what you were doing before joining Spectre

My first glance into coding was when I got my hands on the old Atari computer and tried to rewrite some source code from COMPUTE! magazine into it. I think I was around 5 at that time and didn’t understand it at all, but it was enough to ignite a spark. Later on, I put myself through many different experiences like automation and robotics, programming for embedded systems, marketing, graphic design, sales, web development, working in hospitality, and so on… During the lockdown, I had enough time to get some distant perspective and realise that I want to focus on Software Development. That was the reason for me to start formalising my knowledge to recourse my career path. That’s how I met Spectre.

What’s your favourite thing about what you do?

Solving problems with tools and tricks that most people don’t understand – the alchemy of programming.

What do you do in your free time?

The most favourite thing to do is to travel, second favourite thing is to read about different places and cultures, or watch on YouTube how others are travelling all around the globe. I like to work on my car from time to time as well.

What do you do to turn things around when you’re having a bad day?

A long car ride and music will do the trick.

What is the most unbelievable thing that’s ever happened to you?

A month-long trip to Normandy, France with no plan and no money.

What’s something you’ve done, but will never do again?

Be a child.

Which actor would play you in a movie about your life?

I would say R. Downey Jr., but Sean Bean or Jim Carrey would probably have played anyway.

What’s one song you have completely memorised?

Pixies – Where is my mind?

What’s the first concert you ever went to?

Kasa Chorych (eng. Health Insurance) – polish blues band (2007 in Torun, Poland)
